Neston Civic Society

We love our town!

Welcome to Neston Civic Society

Dedicated to protecting and improving the environment of the attractive and historic town of Neston, Cheshire, UK

Neston is an important historic town which has been occupied since Saxon times. A town of warm sandstone and mellow brick, with many fine historic buildings. It is a beautiful place to live, work and visit.

We publish a 16-page Town Trail booklet available free at Neston Library and Neston Town Hall. The answers to the quiz are under Talks.

Results of the 2015 and 2016 Cheshire Community Pride Competition are on the Events page

Neston Civic Society exists to protect and enhance the unique character of the town, with a particular emphasis on the Conservation Area.

The Society aims to encourage civic pride and help property owners to contribute to maintaining the character of the town when carrying out work to their property.

Obviously large developments have a major impact, but the cumulative effect of many small works have a great impact on the character of the town.

We are concerned with:

  • The Local Environment
  • Planning
  • Architecture
  • Conservation

Particular areas of concern are:

  • Poor choice of windows and doors, particularly in period properties where design and materials are of great importance to the style of the building.
  • The impact of crude and thoughtless shop fronts and advertising along the most important roads in town.
  • The use of poorly chosen building materials that do not fit the distinctive character of the town.
